I'm working on a control drawing for a silicone gasket using silicone sponge. What tolerance should I specify to ensure quality products and avoid needless quality issues in receiving?

Silicone sponge and silicone foam are compressible materials. While our tools are precise, tight tolerances should be avoided. The table below will provide a guide for thickness tolerance. Tolerance for position of holes should be +/- .062" (+/-1.6 mm).

What is the unit of measure for density for silicone sponge or foam and how does it relate to compressibility?

Density is the weight of the material per unit volume. The higher the density the harder the material. Lower density materials are lighter in weight.
